Accused Harasser Questioned: 'However What If I Am Madeleine?'
A female indicted with stalking Kate McCann allegedly left her a phone message which posed: "imagine I am Madeleine?"
The defendant, twenty-four, who witnesses stated has repeatedly declared she was the disappeared Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are on trial charged with pursuing Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February this year.
On Monday, Leicester Crown Court was told phone records and information recovered from phones documented Ms Wandelt persistently requesting Madeleine's mother for a genetic test throughout that period.
Madeleine's case in 2007 - as a three-year-old during a trip in Portugal - is considered the most widely reported child disappearance cases and is still unresolved.
'I Am Not Seeking Money'
A separate voicemail, played in court, documented Ms Wandelt stating: "I understand I'm fat and plain like Madeleine used to be, but I feel what I know."
While a separate message of Ms Wandelt's one-way conversations with Mrs McCann's recording stated: "Imagine there is a small chance that I am she? What happens next? Is that not important for you?"
"I do not need money, I maintain a life here in Poland, I just want to know," the message continued.
The tribunal was told that via emails, text messages and communications, Ms Wandelt requested a genetic test, sent early photographs to her phone in a bid to show a similarity to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and asserted to have "recollections" from a early life with the McCanns.
Robert Jones, a data specialist with Leicestershire Police who gathered the information, advised the court there "seemed to lack any answers" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt additionally contacted acquaintances of the McCanns, according to the phone records.
On October 9th, 2024, Mr McCann picked up a phone call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, stating she had "incorrect contact information."
On that occasion Ms Wandelt left a message on Mrs McCann's voicemail saying "I will continue and I plan to establish my claim."
The court learned the co-defendant established a association online with Ms Wandelt preceding assisting her on a appearance to the McCanns' property in Leicestershire in December 2024.
Phone records showed Mrs Spragg had communicated using communication app to Mrs McCann to state the press had characterized Ms Wandelt as "mentally unstable" but that she should be taken seriously in the time leading up to the trip to the village, that area, in that winter.
The court learned communications between the two accused, in last November, considering attempting to acquire Mrs McCann's biological evidence from her bins or from cutlery at a eating establishment.
"We have to take action," Mrs Spragg informed Ms Wandelt.
On the evening of the trip to their home, Mrs Spragg dispatched a text which stated: "We find ourselves sat outside the McCanns' residence with our headlights off similar to private investigators. I had hoped to achieve this with another person I never thought I would be involved in this with the McCanns."
The proceedings ongoing.
