Brian Eno Encourages Backing to Send Palestinian Solidarity Track to UK Christmas No 1.
A charity drive is aiming to propel a Palestinian lullaby to the peak of the festive singles chart. The campaign aims to send support to Gaza's residents while also highlighting Palestinian culture and creativity.
A Chance for Solidarity and an "Surprise Victory"
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a moment to show solidarity with Palestinians over the Christmas period. He acknowledged the potential for an surprise number one.
“That would be amazing if that came to pass, yes,” he stated. “I’m not gonna be completely let down if it doesn’t, holiday tracks are a unique phenomenon.”
Resilient Spirit of Dignity and Freedom
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the adaptation of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's resilient spirit.
“It occupies a profound significance for countless listeners,” Barghouti explained. “The essence is that I would prefer a dignified death than spend my life without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we want to live a life of dignity that we merit as a people.”
Production History and Featured Artists
The single was laid down in the wake of a major charity concert held in late summer. Initially planned to be captured during the live event, the rendition was omitted from the lengthy event due to time constraints.
The impressive roster of performers featured on Lullaby encompasses a range of prominent voices from the industry. All took part in the earlier concert, which reportedly raised a considerable total for humanitarian aid.
Production and Release
Lullaby was crafted by a team of talented individuals. The track features a mix of the original Arabic with freshly written English words.
The team running the campaign have emphasized that their aim is to generate maximum funds for a charitable pot. These resources will be channeled to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an non-profit partner.
“There is no a rigid aim,” a representative explained. “We aim for as much as possible. Obviously, the greater the amount, the better. Every penny goes out to those in need in Gaza.”
The situation in the territory was characterized as its profound destruction, with a huge proportion of buildings reportedly levelled or seriously harmed.
“In that context, a handful of millions doesn’t make an enormous impact. But I think the significant factor is first of all raising awareness for this issue and demonstrating there’s another side to the story.”
The track is launching on Friday. Additionally, a video of the benefit event will be made available for streaming on a digital service from mid-December.
