Air travel have resumed at Edinburgh Airport after a major ATC system failure grounded all flights.

Every arrival and departure were suspended because of an IT issue that occurred at about 08:30.

A number of travelers reported being stuck in planes on the runway while the issue persisted.

Services Recommence with Residual Impact

The airport confirmed at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "cooperation and patience".

Nonetheless, ongoing issues are expected to continue throughout the day. Flights to key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been called off, with a host of additional flights experiencing delays.

Officials had initially projected that a significant number of movements could be disrupted.

"Passengers are advised to check directly with their airline for the most up-to-date details on their specific flights," was the consistent advice.

Root of the Disruption

The problem was traced to the full ground stop to an technical fault with its ATC service provider.

Travelers continue to be advised to confirm the details of their journey before traveling to the hub as backlogs are cleared.
