Person Who Approached Ariana Grande on the occasion of Red Carpet Event Barred from Singapore
A man from Australia who jumped past a barrier and reached for celebrity Ariana Grande has been deported and barred from Singapore.
The man, twenty-six, was sentenced to nine days in detention for disrupting public order and has now been "barred from re-entering Singapore," the country's border control informed news outlets.
He forced his way past photographers and approached aggressively the celebrity, who was attending the regional launch for Wicked: For Good on November 13. Co-performer Cynthia Erivo wrestled him away from Grande.
The individual has a record of causing disturbances at events and high-profile gatherings, including leaping onto the platform at a Katy Perry performance in Sydney in the past June.
The event provoked strong reactions in Singapore, with numerous people accusing him of re-traumatising Grande.
The pop star has mentioned experiencing trauma-related anxiety after a terrorist bombing at her concert in Manchester in several years ago took the lives of 22 people and affected hundreds.
During Wen's trial, the authorities learned he had tried to gain access on the movie's debut on two occasions, according to regional reports.
He then made a follow-up try to cross the barriers. Protection personnel prevented him and restrained him.
He then uploaded recordings expressing gratitude to the star for letting him on the carpet and said he was "released."
Police detained him the following day and accused him with disorderly conduct, to which Wen pleaded guilty.
The Presiding Judge the judicial official was quoted by a news outlet as saying that he was looking for publicity, adding that he was wrong to assume he would not face any penalties.
The singer has not spoken about the incident.
The co-star discussed the situation to the press, remarking that she "simply desired to verify my friend was safe."
"I think he had no intention to us harm, but you never know with such situations, and I aimed to make sure that she was fine. That was my immediate response," she said.
