Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Retains Liverpool's Support After PSV Loss
Arne Slot admitted that it's natural for questions to be raised about his position after another convincing loss against the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their ninth defeat in 12 games, representing the club's worst run after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a tough evening at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I am OK, I have got a lot of backing from management,” the coach commented.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and secure a win obviously but when you're in a managerial role and not doing well then it's typical that questions are asked.”
He added, “I accept my situation. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with The Board
When asked to expand on his conversations with the team officials, the head coach revealed:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist for the squad and for me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me every single minute each day to say they have faith in me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal exchanges I feel the trust. But I've not talked to them since this defeat yet so let’s see.”
Recurring Issues and Squad Reaction
Slot highlighted recurring failings from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, namely wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his assessment of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to all,” the midfielder remarked.
“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to think about it. I’m past feeling anger internally. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I play for the team I support. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a phase such as this with performances like these.”
He finished, “However we still have the crest on our shirts. And as long as it is taken away, we will always compete.”
“Our aim is to get this team back to where it needs to be, show everyone once more what this club is about and why people call it the top club in the planet.”
“At this moment, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
