A total of Twelve cultural items have been formally returned to the Ethiopian nation following being kept by a family in Germany for in excess of 100 years.

The items, originally gathered in the 1920s by Germany's diplomat to Ethiopia Franz Weiss and his spouse his partner, were transferred on this past Wednesday to the Ethiopian Studies Institute at the university in Addis Ababa.

This assortment contained royal crowns, armor and paintings, all viewed as historically significant in Ethiopia.

"The artefacts continue to serve as a mark of the enduring and friendly ties between the German nation and Ethiopia," remarked Ferdinand von Weyhe, the representative to the East African country.

Professor Ramon Wyss, whose parent was delivered during the household's diplomatic posting in the nation, presented the items at a gathering witnessed by Tourism Minister Selamawit Kassa.

He explained that the household's intention to give back the artefacts was to "showcase their splendor with the public and safeguard the culture and past tied to my father's birth."

The artefacts were either considered presents or buys, based on the relatives.

"I would like to thank the Weiss household for practically showing their deep love for the nation by diligently safeguarding these items and importantly ensuring their return to their rightful country," said the minister of tourism.

She noted that the pieces would soon be available to the people for study and academic study, calling the decision a significant step in protecting Ethiopia's historical legacy.

"Actions are ongoing to return historical artifacts that are located in the custody of private persons and institutions throughout the world," the minister stated.

In the era of imperial control in the African continent, numerous of historical items were looted.

This demand by nations in Africa for the return of looted items has been responded to by a degree of progress in recent years - although several artefacts are merely on loan.

Back in 2022, Germany was the pioneering nation to return some of the renowned historical items to the Nigerian people in an attempt to address its "troubled legacy."
