The former Liverpool manager says a return to lead Liverpool is theoretically possible.
Jurgen Klopp, who departed from Anfield in 2024, indicated that a future comeback remains an option. Klopp, following a hugely successful nine-year spell that included continental glory and ending the club's long wait in 30 years, now holds positions as head of global soccer for Red Bull and as an advisor to Germany's league body.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
They secured England's top flight under Arne Slot, but many fans holding him in high esteem would welcome the notion of his potential comeback. In a wide-ranging interview, he explained to the podcast host: “I said I refuse to lead another team in England. Therefore should it be the Reds...absolutely. In theory, it could happen.”
“At 58 years old, so I might decide down the line, who knows. Is a decision required immediately? If so, I wouldn't return. Fortunately, I don’t have to do that. I can just see what the future brings.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
When asked about the specific conditions would have to unfold to tempt his return to the dugout, he confessed he feels no immediate pull toward coming back. “I don’t even know exactly, My present work fulfills me,” he said. “I don't crave being a coach; I don’t miss standing in the rain for two-and-a-half or three hours; I'm glad to skip media briefings multiple times weekly or having 10-12 interviews weekly.
“No nostalgia for the changing area in that context, yet sharing a meal with the players talking freely, that’s nice. Success was frequent so there was often positive atmosphere in the building. I can still hear Van Dijk's laughter vividly recalled as an instance.”
Commending Arne Slot
He commended regarding Arne Slot, acknowledging his role due to the changes that took the title last campaign. They've been defeated a string of losses in all competitions following significant transfers, though he denied the suggestion of it representing the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, critics will regret if spoken against. He’s an incredible talent. Ekitike, superb talent. This is a well-built balanced team. No need for concern regarding the Reds, things will improve.”
Heartfelt Words for Diogo Jota
He shared movingly on the loss of the Portuguese star, a 2020 acquisition while in charge, and the effect for the team. The Portugal international lost his life in a car crash alongside his brother recently.
“Can you substitute a person like him? This isn't just regarding the player himself, his personality mattered. I can’t imagine the squad without him in it. I find it difficult to discuss regarding this. A devastating blow for his teammates also. Nobody at Liverpool will ever use it as an excuse yet it's the reality. You walk in a dressing room where he was omnipresent. Coping with it emotionally is difficult. Overwhelming.”
