The Game UN:Me: An Psychological Thriller That Blends Silent Hill with Social Deduction Gameplay

The latest Day of the Devs online presentation revealed several fascinating upcoming titles, but one especially has captured the imagination: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player experience appears to fuse together the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill title with the paranoid deduction core of Among Us.

"This is a distinctive game where a girl containing multiple personalities within her needs to flee from a maze of the psyche," explains developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Fractured Mind

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed heroine seeming to be of high school age. Within her exist four separate souls, all possessing their own anxieties and drives. These entities can seize control spontaneously, releasing their deep-seated phobias upon her suddenly.

Based on revealed footage, much of the action takes place within a eerie medical facility, though additional clips depict the main character navigating a abandoned chapel.

An Environment of Individual Dread

"What makes you afraid of? What causes you uneasy?" poses game director Shun Sasaki. "High places. Confined spaces. Authority figures. Things that appear minor to others can trigger a deep instinct inside us. This game explores that concept — fears that are unique to every individual."

The central mechanic revolves around managing whichever soul surfaces at any given moment. However, these souls will change against your will as you play. While exploring, each soul's fears become exaggerated and attack the girl one after another. When the soul changes, so does the specific fear the player encounters.

Eerie Aesthetics and a Fatal Decision

At first glance, UN:Me shares noticeable aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill series. The hospital is filled with orderlies all sporting the identical visage, with disturbingly broad smiles. Patients in the lobby have large blooms growing from their heads are. Flowers are a recurring theme, contrasting organic elegance with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a unique mechanic. Players must determine which of the four souls inhabiting the protagonist is the "real" one. "Each of the personas asserts that the body is rightfully them," explains a developer. "Throughout the game, you need to figure out who is real."

Once players believes a soul is an impostor, they are forced to destroy it. However, since each soul can lie or hide the reality, it is incredibly simple to choose incorrectly.

"Perhaps you've already eliminated the real [soul] with your own hands," a voice suggests. "The final entity standing might be a fraud. In any case, your choices are final."

UN:Me currently lacks a publicly announced launch window, but it is can be follow on platforms.
