The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named Six Seven Spared by Miami Dade County Mayor.

Although not quite at the equivalent scale as pardoning festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued from the start of the onset of a second term in office.

“Unless you count eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a long and happy life free from concern.”

This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was established to emulate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.

The swine, contributed by a first responder, was christened after the current slang trend of young people yelling “six seven” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently named “6-7” its top term for the year.

A New Life

The pardoned swine is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.

“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to begin the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.

“It embodies the spirit of Miami: joyful, varied, and rooted in traditions that bring people together. Every time, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”

Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and strong coffee as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
