Tom Clancy's The Division Makes Its Way to the Tabletop as a Deeply Strategic Tabletop Role-Playing Game

The gritty world of Tom Clancy’s The Division will be adapted into a tabletop role-playing experience. A partnership was established to create a tabletop RPG set within the series' post-pandemic landscape. The project was revealed, with a funding drive scheduled to launch in April of 2026.

"This project will bring the franchise’s distinctive tension, strategic depth, and iconic world-building to the table, providing fans a fresh avenue to engage with The Division through immersive storytelling and mission-based gameplay," states an announcement.

Initial offerings are set to feature a starter set, core rulebooks, a Game Master screen, figurines, and various premium versions.

Delving Into The Division's Dystopian World

In this setting, a deadly virus known as Green Poison was unleashed in NYC, plunging the United States into chaos. As the crisis escalates, society crumbles and hostile groups emerge, turning the city into a battlefield. To restore law and order, the authorities {activate|deploy] The Division, a covert network of undercover operatives. This is where the agents enter the story.

Work on the RPG has been in progress for about several years, and it is confirmed to be finished. The forthcoming crowdfunding effort will function as a preorder system to reach a broader market, specifically in North America. Production will start right after the campaign, with deliveries projected for later in 2026.

A Streamlined Tactical System: The GRIS System

An early look at the system reveals it uses d10s predominantly through its proprietary GRIS system, encouraging a fast-paced and tactical style. Agents leverage abilities to roll small dice pools, typically from one to five d10s.

  • Rather than adding results together, players select a single “resolution die” from the group.
  • This dice is then measured against a set challenge number.
  • Achieving a natural 10 triggers special effects, such as extra damage or boosted support.

Engagements Emphasize Tactical Placement and Situational Insight

Battles prioritize placement and environmental awareness, reflecting the source material. Factors like cover, elevation, or line of sight have a direct impact success chances. This system seems built to favor teamwork and clever tactics over simple statistics.

A Novel Wound System

The way injuries is managed introduces a compelling narrative layer. Operatives have a wound threshold; taking heavy hits reduces their effectiveness by decreasing the number of d10s.

  1. At critical condition, an operative is downed, but they’re not knocked out.
  2. They may still crawl and take limited actions, simulating the "downed" state seen in video game shooters.
  3. Any agent in this state must roll on a trauma table, risking persistent effects like shock or mobility-impairing wounds.

An Introductory Adventure

A publicly available introductory rulebook is promised soon. It contains a pre-made starting adventure titled Ashes of Murray Hill. In this mission, the group lead the search for a missing medical team and must thwart an assault by the notorious Rikers faction, who have seized control of that NYC neighborhood. Further information and the full range of offerings will be unveiled near the campaign launch.
